An aspiring model who was left with severe facial burns after allegedly being doused with acid on her 21st birthday has shared amazing photos of her recovery.
Resham Khan shared pictures of her horrific injuries after she and her cousin, Jameel Muhktar, were allegedly attacked with a corrosive substance as they drove through east London in June.
The brave student opened up about her gruelling and painful recovery in a blog. In a series of harrowing posts, she told how she was “too petrified to walk to my local shop” and explained the extensive medical treatment she endured.
And the 21-year-old has now shared pictures of herself with no visible scarring, thanking her followers for their support in an emotional post.
“Of course my face isn’t what it was, the images show mainly one side,” she wrote, to which hundreds of people responded commenting on her beauty.
Ms Khan then wrote: “You’re all actually making me so emotional thank you all so much I feel so lucky to be surrounded by so much positivity. “
Ms Khan said she was with her cousin in Newham when a man approached their car and threw acid through the windows, leaving them both seriously injured.
Shortly after the alleged June 21 attack, she shared pictures of herself with large dark scars on her body and peeling scabs across her face.
In a blog post written on August 12, she described the medical treatment she had undergone, which included having her burns continually treated with a “body jet spray” and several skin grafts.
She described herself a mentally “up and down… as normal as can be given recent events” and wrote: “You have all seen how I looked, my face was all swollen, my burns took my skin.
“I know I haven’t shared any photos, but … you have all seen me at my worst, so at least let me show you when I’m looking good. For me that would be when my eye looks normal. The skin colour I can deal with, the scarring I can cover or treat.
“There are options for me. However, I have been taking photos all the time, so maybe one day I’ll be able to share the timeline of physical recovery.”
Her followers praised her “courage” and said she is a “welcome hope for others who have been affected by acid attacks”.
Police investigating the incident charged 24-year-old east Londoner John Tomlin with two counts of GBH,
He is due to stand trial at Southwark Crown Court on November 27.
