Drivers have been hit with huge delays in east London after a car erupted in flames at the entrance of the Blackwall tunnel.
The tunnel was initially closed northbound while firefighters attempted to extinguish the blaze, leaving traffic stationary to the south of the Thames and triggering huge tailbacks.
The southbound bore of the tunnel was later closed as well due to smoke from the fire, which started at around 7pm. Queues north of the river were stretching back as far as Bromley-by-Bow.
Pictures taken by frustrated drivers at the scene showed a single car ablaze with smoke billowing above the O2 arena.
