A week after the rain started falling the army arrived in South Yorkshire to help the victims of the flooding that has engulfed communities near Doncaster.

Around 80 soldiers have been laying sand bags in towns along the River Don.

They were – briefly – visited by the Prime Minister. But he got a frosty welcome from local residents some of whom angrily accused him of doing nothing to help them.

And they were warned it could be some time before they can return to their homes for good, with more heavy rain forecast. Tom Parmenter reports.
