Premier League footballer Jermain Defoe broke down in tears as he bid goodbye to “best friend” Bradley Lowery.
The striker wore an England shirt for the emotional funeral of the six-year-old, who died last week following a tragic battle with cancer.
Defoe joined the youngster’s family to walk behind his tiny white and red coffin through the streets of his hometown of Hartlepool.
Photos of the footballer showed him wiping away tears as he stood outside St Joseph’s Church.
Defoe, now signed for Bournemouth, left training in Spain to attend the funeral after striking up a remarkable friendship with Bradley.
The pair met after Bradley appeared as a mascot for his beloved Sunderland.
Bradley died a week ago in his parents’ arms at home following a battle with the rare childhood cancer neuroblastoma.
