Sky News understands that a number of ‘no-deal’ war games will be held by the UK armed forces with a cross-government exercise planned for next month.
Soldiers will make up the bulk of 3,500 military personnel on standby for ‘no-deal’ duties.
The head civil servant of the Ministry of Defence told staff in an internal note seen by Sky News that they had made preparations the department’s ‘highest priority’.
A spokesman for the MoD said ‘our national and international commitments would be unaffected by a no-deal Brexit’ and no overseas operations would be affected in terms of troops being asked to return.
