NHL defenceman and Strathroy native Brian Campbell is retiring from the Chicago Blackhawks, but he isn’t going far.

The team announced his retirement after 17 NHL season Monday, noting he’ll join the club’s front office. His work will involve marketing and community relations.

Campbell, 38, won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010 and played in four NHL all-star games. He started his career with the Buffalo Sabres and skated in more than 1,000 NHL games with Buffalo, Chicago, San Jose and the Florida Panthers.

Per capfriendly.com, he earned more than $60 million in his NHL career.
