A ‘knifeman’ has been arrested after two police officers were attacked outside Buckingham Palace.
Witnesses reported seeing police armed with guns swarming the scene after a man was spotted with a knife on the Mall on Friday evening.
The man was stopped by two officers, who then attacked them as they tried to make an arrest, police said.
The two officers suffered minor injuries to their arms and were treated at the scene.
Amir Jan Malick said on Twitter: “Police with guns began encircling the Palace and directing cars away as more police cars were rushing towards the palace with sirens.”
A Met Police spokesman said: “The man – no further details – was stopped this evening, Friday 25 August at approximately 20:35 hours by officers at the Mall outside Buckingham Palace in possession of knife.
“During the course of detaining him, two male police officers suffered minor injuries to their arm.
“The London Ambulance Service were called and they were treated at the scene. They have not been taken to hospital.
