A busy south London swimming pool has been closed for the day after being evacuated over a “nappy incident.”

The Castle Leisure Centre in Elephant and Castle announced its decision to close its main pool on Saturday afternoon.

It will be shut throughout the day while staff at the centre scramble to clean the area.

Announcing the decision on Twitter, the Everyone Active Centre wrote: “Bad news folks; nappy incident in the main pool so now it needs cleaning & will be closed for the rest of today.

“Open as normal tomorrow.”

The swimming pool, which opens at 2pm on weekends, recently underwent a refurbishment as part of a £20 million redevelopment of the centre.

The Castle Leisure Centre has been approached for comment.
