Camden Market fire: Dramatic footage shows blaze raging through iconic market

Dramatic video footage has emerged of a fire tearing through Camden Market as firefighters battled a huge blaze there.

More than 70 firefighters descended on the historic retail complex after the blaze broke out just before midnight on Sunday.

In the footage, smoke can be seen billowing into the air and flames raging as firefighters battled the blaze, which spread across several buildings at the market.

Pictures have also emerged of dozens of firefighters surrounding the market as crews from across London spent more than two hours battling the blaze.

Witnesses have told the Standard of how they burst into tears at the “awful” sight of the fire on Chalk Farm Road.

Luis Angel, 26, who worked at the nearby Lockside Camden bar, said: “It was huge, it was ridiculous.

“It was an awful thing to see, I was in tears. Everyone is praying there was no one was inside.”

London Fire Brigade said 10 fire engines were sent to the scene of the fire.

Firefighters were still at the scene on Monday morning to dampen down the damaged buildings.

Crews from Kentish Town, Euston, Soho, Paddington and Holloway fire stations attended.

Station Manager David Reid who said: “Crews worked hard to get the fire under control and to stop it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.”

Nobody was injured in the fire and an investigation has been launched.
