Police are searching for a cyclist after a young man was stabbed to death in a horrific daylight attack in a busy street in Camden.

Officers investigating the incident want to speak to a man who was riding a bicycle in the area and helped a police officer arrest a suspect.

The man was cycling along Harrington Street shortly after the stabbing in Hampstead Road at about 11.45am on Monday.

Scotland Yard says the man is not a suspect and has asked him to call the Homicide and Major Crime Command to assist them with the investigation.

Following the attack, witnesses described seeing the victim lying on the floor and losing blood as another passer-by fought to save his life.

The road was cordoned off between Mornington Crescent and Varndell Street. (@Kristian_Tweet)

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and an air ambulance was scrambled.

A man, aged 20, was found suffering from stab wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is now in custody at a north London police station.

A Met Police spokesman said: “A post mortem examination will be held in due course. Formal identification awaits.

“His next of kin have been informed. A crime scene remains in place.

“Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.”

The cyclist or anyone else who witnessed this incident or has information is asked to contact the HMCC on their incident room number of 0208 785 8099 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
