A driver told police she was going almost three times the speed limit Monday in south London because she was late for work.

A 22-year-old woman was charged with racing a motor vehicle after she was clocked driving 175 km/h on a 60 km/h stretch of Manning Drive at around 12:30 p.m.

“This is a clear example of what not to do. 175 km/h is too fast, regardless of the posted speed limit, ” Middlesex County OPP. Const. Max Gomez said.

“A bump on the road would cause this driver to lose control with catastrophic consequences. Speeding and aggressive driving are on of the leading causes of injury and death on our roadways. Without a doubt, our officers prevented a tragedy today,”

Middlesex OPP say the woman told the officer who stopped her that she was late for work.

The woman’s vehicle was seized for seven days and her driver’s licence was suspended for seven days.
