Chancellor Philip Hammond has opened the third day of debate on Britain’s withdrawal agreement, telling the Commons that the current deal on the table is the “best available”.

He said that the alternatives to Theresa May’s deal would be “no-deal or no Brexit”, but warned of the “economic self-harm” of a ‘no-deal’ scenario.

Business secretary Greg Clark also said it would be “crazy” to leave the EU without a deal.

The chancellor concluded his remarks by telling MPs: “Let’s get on with it, let’s back this deal, honour the referendum, protect our economy and work together in the national interest to build a brighter future for our country.”
