Police are investigating after a family dog was brazenly shot outside of its home Thursday night in South Bruce Peninsula.

The dog’s owner let the 13-year-old terrier Chihuahua mix outside to relieve itself at about 11:50 p.m. When the dog didn’t return after several minutes, the owner went outside looking for it.

The pet owner found the dog dead in the laneway, shot in the chest with a small caliber gun.

South Bruce Peninsula OPP believe the random shooting was a crime of opportunity.

Police are investigating and asking anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
