This is the dramatic moment two people were airlifted to safety after flash flooding devastated a village in Cornwall.

Footage showed the pair being winched to safety via rescue helicopter from a home in Coverack as a huge torrent of water flows beneath them.

The clip showed one resident suspended in the air in powerful winds after the floods hit the coastal village on Tuesday afternoon.

They can be seen being pulled from the building by a member of the crew before the helicopter takes them to safety.

Heavy rainfall hit at about 3pm on Tuesday and about 50 properties were said to have been affected. No injuries were reported.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said its crews attended “multiple flooding-related incidents” and urged people to “avoid the area”.

It said crews remained in Coverack on Wednesday morning.

A spokeswoman said: “Cornwall Fire and Rescue remains in attendance on scene, working with the community to salvage.

“Reliefs are being arranged for crews on scene.

“It is expected that the fire service will remain in attendance until midday, assisting the community.”
