Deep Ocean Live: Scientists to explore the Indian ocean

Scientists are to venture into a part of the ocean never before in the Indian Ocean.

The mission, called First Descent, will take scientists from the research organisation Nekton and Sky News will be with the team on the vessel Ocean Zephyr in 2019 as they make at least 50 dives in around the first around coral atolls.

It will be the first-ever live programmes of the underwater world with a submersible.

The Nekton scientists will survey the health of the coral in the area and assess the biodiversity of the reefs along with the impact of over-fishing and plastic pollution.
