Donald Trump has insisted that both sides were to blame for violence in Virginia which left one person dead.

The President was widely criticised for his initial response to Saturday’s clashes, which failed to denounce the far-right and blamed all sides.

That’s a position he restated last night in a characteristically combative press conference, leading to renewed outcry and dissent even from his own side. Cordelia Lynch reports from New York.
