As analysts grew increasingly concerned about the bombastic rhetoric traded by Donald Trump and the North Korean regime, the people of Twitter found a way to laugh instead of cry.

Mr Trump threatened on Tuesday to unleash “fire and fury like the world has never seen” on North Korea if it threatened the US.

In response, the rogue state said it was “carefully examining” plans to attack the tiny Pacific island of Guam, a US territory which hosts an air base, unleashing an “enveloping fire” on the island.

Twitter users responded to the stressful situation of possible nuclear war with a mixture of concern and anger, but above all humour.

Some praised Donald Trump’s foresight and strategy.

Some found solace in denial.

Some saw a need to manage expectations.

Some came up with very British diversions.

Others suggested that, as with Brexit, everybody should get on board with the President regardless of their personal feelings about nuclear Armageddon.

It seemed there were some silver linings.

Some found they were now more focused on what was really important.

Some thought it churlish to complain about higher temperatures potentially coming to the UK.

One man pointed out that at least a Donald Trump Armageddon was likely to be of particularly high quality.

Some pointed out that standards had already started to slip in their local shop.

Some even contemplated penning think-pieces.

Several people also pointed out that another large news story broke on Wednesday.

FBI agents reportedly raided the home of Mr Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
