A St. Thomas resident claimed the top prize as London’s Dream Home Lottery in support of local hospitals drew the winning names Thursday morning.
Grand-prize winner Dermot Brennan of St. Thomas gets his choice of $1 million cash or the London dream home package. The north London home, which includes a Range Rover convertible and cash has a total prize value to $1,142,558.
“Oh my god,” Brennan said when contacted by phone.
He missed the first call from draw organizers and explained he was visiting family in Alberta.
The grand prize home also includes house cleaning, property taxes and property maintenance for one year.
50/50 prize winner Elizabeth Garcia of Dorchester takes home $456,382. Ken McCann of London has his choice of four vehicles or $40,000. Londoner Richard Shildrick gets his pick of a motorcycle, ATV or $8,000 cash.
More than $30 million has been raised over lottery’s 21-year run. More than 97 per cent of the tickets for this spring’s lottery were sold.
The semi-annual lottery supports the fundraising arms of the London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joe’s hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario.
“The money being raised is staying in our community,” said Leslie Cornelius, board member with St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation.
“The Dream Lottery is a local lottery.”
