Elgin OPP still searching for person who killed Sonya Cywink, whose body was found 23 years ago

Elgin County OPP continue to investigate the death of Sonya Nadine Cywink, an Indigenous woman from London who went missing and was found dead 23 years ago.

On Aug. 30, 1994, Cywink’s body was found at Southwold Earthworks in Elgin County. Police say there was evidence of trauma to her body and are investigating her death as a homicide.

Originally from White Fish First Nation Territory on Manitoulin Island, Cywink was living in London at the time of her death.

She was last seen near the intersection of Dundas and Lyle streets at about 2 a.m. on Aug. 26, 1994.

The government of Ontario has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people involved in Cywink’s death.
