A gamer has urged web bosses to ban trolls who target women online after she was sexually harassed by users during a live-streaming session.

Charleyy Hodson called for automatic bans for “ringleaders and all their followers” to stop a “culture of abuse”.

She said that while broadcasting on Amazon-owned Twitch, trolls typed bullying messages about her appearance and later posted the abuse on their channels.

Half of British gamers are women and many use Twitch, where members chat and beam gameplay.

Ms Hodson, 22, of Surrey, was doing a jigsaw puzzle during the abuse and felt “paralysed” as she faced sexual comments and insults of “s***”.

She said: “I’ve had previous experience with this.” The next target, a disabled female gamer, faced “death threats”, she said.

The ringleader’s channel was shut but later reinstated. Twitch said it took “harassment very seriously” and had a range of tools to combat it.
