Five people have died in a climbing accident in Austria.

The group were killed while scaling Mount Gabler, east of Innsbruck, today, The Austrian Red Cross said.

Austrian news agency APA reported the five mountain climbers were part of a group of six. 

Rescue efforts are still underway and it is not clear what has happened to the sixth person, the news agency said.

Five helicopters are involved in the rescue efforts. 

APA said the nationalities of the climbers have not been identified yet. 

It also wasn’t clear how exactly they died.
