Food-lovers were left outraged after revellers faced “90 minute queues” at a popular dairy festival during which visitors complained there was hardly any cheese.

Organisers of the Brighton Cheese Fest were met with fury on social media after visitors faced huge queues on Saturday, with some complaining that stalls ran out of popular products.

Visitors, who paid up to £6 in advance fees to visit the festival, complained the event was a “rip off” and queues lasted about 90 minutes.

Renowned TV food critic Jay Rayner was among those to slam the festival, branding it a “disaster”.

Organisers have since apologised for the queues.

Kate Harrison posted on Twitter: “Shockingly bad £6 for endless queues, overpriced food and grumpy door staff though one stall was free of queues.”

A Facebook group, called Brighton Cheese Fest Sucks, was even set up as angry food lovers flooded social media with complaints.

Shelley Sullivan posted: “Nothing like advertised. No baked Camembert. No cheese fondue with nachos. No proper hard cheeses to purchase to take home. Badly organised. How can you not anticipate the volume of cheese needed?”

Jay Rayner tweeted: “Want to see a food festival disaster in real time? Go look at #cheesefest Ouch and so on.”

A spokesman for Cheese Fest UK said: “We would like to take the time to apologise for the queues on the Saturday of the event, which were as a result of our dedication to selling hot and fresh food to order.

“There were over 20 traders on site for the 1000 attendees on site at any time to enjoy.

“Although we are extremely sorry for those who were hoping for a traditional farmers style market of cheese, we stand behind the event as being marketed as a contemporary festival of modern cheese and street food such as mac and cheese waffles, halloumi fries, raclette and more.”
