A schoolboy who was left fighting for his life after a shooting in east London has died.

Corey Junior Davis, 14, died in hospital on Tuesday night, a day after he was shot in the head with a shotgun in Forest Gate.

He and his friend were attacked in Moore Walk shortly after 3pm on Monday in what police have called an “extreme act of violence” as officers launched a murder investigation.

Mr Davis’ friend, 17, was also shot and remains in hospital with potentially life-changing injuries, the Met said.

The Newham shooting follows a string of tit-for-tat stabbings and shootings in the area and police have since ordered a sweeping stop and search powers to come into force.

“This is a very tragic incident,” said DCI Dave Whellams, who is leading the murder probe. “A teenage boy’s life has been taken in an extreme act of violence leaving his family utterly devastated.

“We are pursuing all lines of enquiry to catch the person responsible for Corey’s murder and are keen to hear from anyone who believes they might have information to come forward as it could prove vital to our investigation.

“Our thoughts are with Corey’s family at this very difficult time.”

No one has yet been arrested, the Met said.

According to a local shop worker, the suspect “just came from behind and shot him”.

Another witness, who did not wish to be named, said: “The shooting was outside the playground. I heard the noise from my house – pow, pow, it was twice. I looked outside my window and I couldn’t see anything, but then I heard people screaming and I went outside.”

Doctors from a nearby GP surgery also rushed to help the victims following the blast.

The family of Mr Davis, who was from Forest Gate and died at just after 10pm on Tuesday, is being supported by family liaison officers. A post-mortem examination into Mr Davis’ death will be held in due course, Scotland Yard said.

In two unrelated incidents in the same 12 hours of violence at the start of this week, two men were stabbed to death in street attacks in Camden and Hounslow while three others suffered knife wounds in Southall.
