Officers believe the victims were known to the suspect.

Police were called to the Golders Green Crescent shortly before 9pm on Friday night following reports of two seriously injured women.

They were both found to be suffering from stab wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers stepped up patrols in Barnet and issued an urgent appeal to track down the suspect.

Detective Inspector Ian Lott said: “Following a recent media appeal a discerning member of the public alerted police to a real time sighting and officers moved quickly to detain and arrest the man wanted for questioning shortly before 2pm.”
