This Morning viewers were left in tears as hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford met a former producer of the show completely paralysed due to an allergic reaction

Amy May Shead was left paralysed and suffering from brain injuries after she ate some food containing nuts while on holiday in Budapest in 2014.

The former producer, who is severely allergic, almost died as she was starved of oxygen for a whole six minutes and went into anaphylactic shock.

She is now confined to a wheelchair and unable to talk.

Even though she used two epinephrine autoinjector pens to try and stop the horrific reaction, she was left in a coma following the incident.

In heartbreaking scenes, This Morning host Ms Langsford held the former producer’s hand as her parents relived the tragic incident on the show on Monday.

Mother Sue said: “They said this dish has no nuts, it’s not cooked in anything with nut oil, it will be fine.

“They brought the chicken dish out for Amy and she had not just one mouthful of this chicken and immediately she felt her throat tightening and went into major anaphylactic shock.”

She went on: “They sat us down to prepare us before we saw her in the hospital, and she was on life support.

“They didn’t think she’d survive the week.”

Sue and father Roger have since begun campaigning or nuts to be banned on planes, while the Amy May Trust has been set up to support her complex medical treatments.

Viewers of the show flooded social media with emotional messages of support to Ms May Shead.

Kerry Newman posted on Twitter: “This Morning is so heartbreaking! Poor Amy!”

One Twitter user, known only as Lisa, said: “Heartbroken watching Amy on This Morning. 100 per cent back the campaign! Need to spread awareness how dangerous nuts can be to people.”

Junipa Berry added: “Crying watching Ruth Langsford stroking Amy’s hand.”
