Hillary Clinton has said her “skin crawled” when she faced off with Donald Trump in the debates during the US presidential election.

The defeated Democrat candidate claimed she considered telling the now-US President to “back up you creep” as he walked behind her during one of the pair’s fiery TV clashes.

She made the revelation in her upcoming memoir “What Happened”, the former Secretary of State’s candid retelling of her shock defeat to Mr Trump.

Ms Clinton recalls how she was disturbed by the infamous video of Mr Trump saying he could not resist “grabbing women by the p***y” that emerged during the campaign.

As reported by MSNBC’s Morning Joe shoe, Ms Clinton writes: “It was the second presidential debate, and Donald Trump was looming behind me.

“Two days before, the world heard him brag about groping women.

“Now we were on a small stage and no matter where I walked, he followed me closely, staring at me, making faces.

“It was incredibly uncomfortable. He was literally breathing down my neck. My skin crawled.”

Ms Clinton has said she plans to publish the memoir to “pull back the curtain” on what she describes as a “humbling” experience in running for the presidency.

Business tycoon Mr Trump was elected to the White House in November ahead of Ms Clinton by a margin of just 2.1 per cent.

The pair faced off in three heated television debates, with a record 83 million people tuning into the first clash.

The third and final debate was overshadowed by the leaked tape recordings, which showed him making lewd comments about women back in 2005.

Ms Clinton added: “It was one of those moments where you wish you could hit pause and ask everyone watching: ‘Well, what would you do?’ Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space?

“Or do you turn, look him in the eye, and say loudly and clearly: ‘Back up, you creep, get away from me.’”
