Sir Iain Duncan Smith has launched a stinging attack on Downing Street, saying a sign should have been put up instructing staff to go straight home after work – rather than into the garden of No 10 to party.

He told Trevor Phillips: “This is unforgivable, there is no question that what has been going on and … the culture has become lazy and slack about what happens after hours, what happens in offices.

“You know, most businesses wouldn’t allow what was going on in the offices, even though people have been under pressure.”
