Double Paralympic gold medallist Richard Whitehead says the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has taken a “backwards step” removing the T42 100 metres from Toyko 2020.

It means the only sprint events available to double amputees, such as Whitehead, at the next Paralympic games will be the T42 200 metres.

Speaking after finishing third in the T42 100m event, Whitehead said: “The IPC are trying to shrink the programme. For me it’s about performance, inclusion, and offering opportunities for performance, not actually restricting the programme.”
