A London MP has added her voice to those condemning a rally in front of city hall planned for Saturday by those protesting against Muslims.

New Democrat Irene Mathyssen (London-Fanshawe) issued the condemnation while in France where she is part of a delegation commemorating the 75th anniversary of the raid on Dieppe:

“I am dismayed to hear that anti-Islam agitators have planned a demonstration for August 26 in London,” she wrote. “Having just attended commemoration ceremonies on the beach in Dieppe to honour the sacrifice of Canadians there, I find the irony and tragedy of this news disgusting and appalling.”

“I call on the good people of London to oppose this demonstration with love, strength and conviction. We cannot and should not let hate destroy our community.”

Earlier this week, with its eye toward the planned rally, city council unanimously passed a resolution against racism.
