After days of wrangling with local leaders, the Prime Minister has said a £60m support package for Greater Manchester will be distributed to local councils in the region, effectively bypassing the mayor, Andy Burnham.

The Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer accused the government of “pitting region against region” and “bargaining with people’s lives.”

Meanwhile the Chancellor Rishi Sunak is expected to offer more emergency support to the hospitality industry. He’s expected to offer help to pubs, bars and restaurants operating in Tier 2 restrictions, which can remain open but are seeing a big reduction in takings.

Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by deputy political editor Vicki Young and economics editor Faisal Islam.
