Sit, watch and cringe

Regarding the article Wonderland widening a biggie (July 31).

I think the traffic planners at city hall should be mandated to sit in a lawn chair at the major intersections along Wonderland Road from 4 to 6 p.m. every weekday. They would then see the carnage created by their mistimed traffic signals.

I recall at least two announcements of $3-million computer upgrades to the system. When do we get to see those results?

Disgraceful neglect

A previous London council erected a welcome monument at a considerable cost to the taxpayers at the corner of Oxford Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

These Stonehenge-looking concrete slabs have now been overgrown by weeds and grass, looking like a centuries-old cemetery.

The mayor, councillors and parks department heads should be fully responsible for the neglect of the site. It is an utter disgrace to promote London with all the small talk, yet allow this to be totally neglected.

Along the entire parkway, weeds and grass sprout up in the median and sides. Mayor Matt Brown should take control of this pitiful neglect of our city. No excuses, please!

Quotas erode values

Celine Cooper’s column Gender quotas needed to ensure parity in politics (July 28) speaks to an unfair, unCanadian and undemocratic propaganda stream that has been carried by Postmedia and other newspapers.

Quotas for women or specific groups undermine our original, core values of fairness and equal opportunity. Everyone regardless of race, religion or gender should have an equal opportunity in both public and private organizations.

To accept or promote people based on race, religion or gender is simply wrong.

Ours is a competitive world and for us to continue to succeed it is imperative that we have the best people in place regardless of their race, religion of gender. Lawmakers and business leaders should move to remove all laws and policies that stipulate quotas.

The best person or candidate gets accepted or promoted regardless of race, religion or gender.
