The city continues on a building tear and Mayor Matt Brown took a moment Monday to credit staff.

The city has been working with the development and business community to speed construction, especially on new homes, he said at a planning and environment committee meeting, Monday.

“A lot of growth is happening. We have heard from developers we need to move faster, we need to continually improve,” said Brown.

“I want to offer accolades to the development community for working closely with staff.”

A staff report said by the end of June, 2,427 building permits had been issued with a value of approximately $530.5 million, representing 1,348 new dwelling units.

That is 5.1 per cent more permits than last year, 19.5 per cent more construction value and 18.45 per cent more dwelling units than the same period last year, the report said.
