BURLINGTON —The London Majors did it with the bats on Thursday.

The Majors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their Intercounty Baseball League best-of-seven playoff series against the Burlington Herd, defeating them 14-4. The Majors won the opener in London Wednesday 1-0 on a dominant pitching performance by Luis Sanchez, who threw a complete-game three-hitter.

Cleveland Brownlee drove in the only run the Majors needed in the first inning for that opening win.

Thursday, the Majors didn’t need the same kind of pitching performance, but starter Cory Hammond gave them a good one anyway.

He was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and giving up just three hits and two runs while striking out five.

Meanwhile, the Majors provided Hammond with plenty of offence.

It was over by the fifth inning, when the Majors had built a 10-0 lead. Brownlee started things off in the first inning again on Thursday, when he unloaded a two-run homer off Burlington starter Rich Corrente.

Corrente would only go five innings, giving up 11 runs, seven earned and 10 hits.

Carlos Arteaga did all the damage with two out in the second inning. The Majors third baseman stepped up with the bases loaded and hit a single to empty the bags.

Brownlee added a bases-empty homer in the third and the five-run fifth for the Majors put the game out of reach.

It was a big night offensively for several Majors. Arteaga finished 4-for-5 with a walk and six runs batted in. Brownlee was 3-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of homers while Tristan Buntrock was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI. The Majors had 16 hits in total.

Game 3 in the series goes Friday, 7:35 p.m. at Labatt Park
