London is set to be hit by heavy downpours as the wet summer weather continues.

Forecasters have warned that there is no end in sight for the damp and breezy conditions, with more persistent showers expected next week.

Although conditions should brighten over the weekend, the Met Office added that another “depression” will see more wet weather arrive on Monday.

Spokesman Grahame Madge told the Standard: “The situation today is it’s going to get progressively wetter over the course of the day, by lunch time and into mid-afternoon rain it is going to increase in intensity.

“It’s going to be breezy as well. In terms of temperatures, there will be highs of 19, maybe 20C.”

“This will continue into tomorrow, with showers, some heavy.

“However there will also be highs of 22 or 23C as most people also see brighter and clear spells.

“It will be a little brighter on Friday and the picture for the weekend is brighter spells with showers coming through, and temperatures of around 20C.”

Mr Madge said that the best weather will arrive on Sunday, but by Monday the downpours will be back.

He added: “Sunday will be the best day but by Monday there will be another depression, with rain and further showers expected.”
