Londoners have told how they are being left unnerved by the “omnipresent” face of a woman on a Trivago advertisement that is all over the Underground.
Commuters have compared repeatedly seeing the grinning model as they travel across the capital to “constantly being followed” and like a “bad dream”.
Gabrielle Miller, an Australian actress, has gained a cult following after she was selected for the hotel comparison site’s advertisement that appears all over the world.
And since it was rolled out in London, social media users were quick to point out how frequently they encounter the poster that is “taking over” the Underground.
One Twitter user wrote: “The Trivago woman must be stopped. Her Ubiquity is soul-crushing,” with another adding: “seriously paranoid that the Trivago woman is stalking me on the tube.”
Others told how the advert was so widespread it crept into their dreams, with one commuter writing on social media: “I too have Trivago nightmares….there is no escaping this woman!”
Another said: “Getting the tube at the moment is essentially a bad dream where you’re constantly being followed by the woman from the Trivago advert.”
And another social media user wrote: “Why is this Trivago ad being s*** around EVERYWHERE?! Counted 38 ads in about 100m. Feel like I’m being stalked by this woman.”
One commuter said he sees the actress’s face more than he sees his partner’s, with another confused Londoner adding: “The end must be soon.”
While some appeared to be disconcerted, the actress has reportedly been flooded with marriage proposals since the International advertisement was first rolled out.
But speaking to news.com.au, Ms Miller said she is “never recognised” despite gaining a cult following after appearing in the commercial.
Ms Miller revealed she was touring Greece when she was asked if she wanted to appear in the ad, and said she filmed her audition from a nudist beach.
She told the Australian news website: “We were camping on a nudist beach on the island of Crete.
“The request was to dress as a Hollywood star, casual but fashionable, and to imagine that I was in an animated studio preferably against a white background.
“Of course I had none of the above therefore I had to be resourceful, so I wedged the camera between two rocks, wiped the zinc off my face and filmed a rough version of the script while trying to avoid too many bare bottoms in the background.”
The actress said she has appeared in “close to 20” adverts for Trivago, adding: “but not all have been released.”
