Two men quizzed over the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl from a wedding party in the French Alps have been released without charge.

The men, both aged 34, were held by police on Thursday after Maëlys De Araujo went missing a week ago.

She has not been seen since around 3am last Sunday when her parents and sister, 12, reported her missing from the party in Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin, some 25 miles west of Chambery.

An official said the men were released on Friday night. He did not give any further details.

Hundreds of volunteers today took part in searches in a bid to find the youngster who was wearing a white dress when she disappeared after playing with other children at the wedding venue.

It was initially thought she had fallen asleep somewhere after a game of hide and seek.

Dogs sniffed a toy used by Maëlys last week but could only pick up her scent as far as the car park of the hall where the party took place.
