Man, 19, charged after two seriously hurt in Mile End acid attack

A young man has been charged after two people were left seriously injured in an east London acid attack.

Mustafa Ahmed, 19, from Stepney, was charged in connection with an attack on July 4 at 2pm in Burdett Road in Mile End.

The two victims, a man aged in his 20s and a woman in her 40s, suffered burns and were taken to hospital. They have since been discharged following treatment.

Ahmed, of Musberry Street, was arrested on Sunday and has now been charged with one count of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and one count of attempted wounding with intent to do GBH.

He will appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

An 18-year-old man and two 19-year-old men were also arrested on suspicion of GBH but have been released under investigation. 

Police in Tower Hamlets said their investigation continues.
