Man, 23, arrested after Bethnal Green acid attack which left victims with shocking injuries

A man has been arrested after an acid attack in east London which left its victims screaming in agony as skin “peeled off” their faces.

The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent on Thursday after two men were targeted in Bethnal Green earlier this week.

He remains in custody at an east London police station.

Police officers were passing Roman Road at around 7pm on Tuesday when they were flagged down by the two victims, aged 23 and 24.

Paramedics rushed to the scene as dramatic footage emerged showing the pair in their underwear being washed down in front of shocked passers-by.

Both victims were taken to an east London hospital for treatment.

Whilst their condition is not being treated as life threatening it is being treated as life changing, police said.
