A man has been charged over an incident near Buckingham Palace in which three police were left injured.

Mohiussunnath Choudhury, 26, is accused of a terror offence after he was arrested near Buckingham Palace armed with a 4ft sword, Scotland Yard said.

He is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later on Thursday.

No members of the Royal Family were inside Buckingham Palace when a man drove a car at officers and then reached for a four-foot sword.

Three police officers were hurt in the attack on the Mall at just after 8.30pm on Friday.

Commander Dean Haydon, the head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, praised the quick action of the officers, two of whom needed hospital treatment for cuts.

“I would like to pay tribute to the bravery and professionalism of these officers who quickly brought this incident under control,” he said.
