A Mitchell man killed late Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash on a rural road was driving at more than double the speed limit, police say.

Andre Neshaw, 42, was westbound on Line 10 of Blanshard Township about 11:30 p.m., Perth OPP said.

The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a ditch, striking several trees before it came to rest on its roof.

Police said Neshaw, the only occupant of the vehicle, was freed by members of the St. Marys fire department but died of his injuries.

OPP collision investigators said the vehicle was travelling at more than double the posted speed limit of 80 km/h and alcohol is also a suspected factor in the crash.

In the last five days, there have been three fatal crashes resulting in four deaths in Southwestern Ontario.

The OPP said alcohol, speed and a failure to wear belts were one or more of the factors in the collisions.
