Police today issued a new image of the jogger who pushed a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge, more than four months on from the attack.

The image is taken from an onboard camera on the bus and shows the man running past the vehicle.

The woman victim narrowly avoided serous injury only because of the quick reactions of the driver of the 430 bus who swerved to avoid her as she fell in front of him. The incident happened at about 7.40am on May 5.

About 15 minutes after the incident, the jogger came back the other way across the bridge. The victim tried to speak to him but he did not acknowledge her and carried on jogging towards the north side of the river.

Speaking at the weekend the hero bus driver Oliver Salbris, 45, described the moment of the incident.

Police released this image in the hunt for a jogger wanted over the incident

He said: “I was focusing on the road and I just saw the collision between the jogger and the woman.

“It was a fairly close call. I thought I was going to touch her. If I hadn’t swerved, I would have smashed her head. It was reflex – and I would say thanks to God.”

Mr Salbris said he thought the attack was intentional saying that the jogger had chosen to push the woman rather than a man walking directly in front of her, adding: ‘He looked like he was doing it on purpose.”

The incident on Putney Bridge was caught on CCTV

Detective Sergeant Chris Griffith of Wandsworth CID said: “Images of this alarming incident have been circulated widely and we continue to work through the information received to identify the man respons

“We are grateful to those who have assisted so far. However, I am also appealing for anyone who has given just a name to contact police or Crimestoppers again with as much information as possible so we can fully follow up those lines of enquiry.”

The man makes a beeline for the female pedestrian

The jogger is described as a white man, aged in his 30s, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He was wearing a light grey T-shirt and dark blue shorts with grey trainers.

After a police appeal last month a 41-year-old American millionaire banker was arrested but proved he had been in the US at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information should call detectives from Wandsworth CID on 020 3276 2606 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
