He is perhaps most famous for photographing the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

The fifteen iconic images taken by acclaimed photographer Mario Testino initially shot for Vanity Fair of Diana in 1997 was sensational.

It formed the main part of an exhibition that opened at Kensington Palace in 2005 and the photographs turned out to be the last official portraits taken of the Princess before her untimely death the same year.

Since then he has become a favourite of the royals and snapped Prince William, Kate and their children.

So it was a little surprising that the Duchess of Cornwall settled on using Mr. Testino for her official photo shoot to mark her 70th birthday on Monday.

Shoulder to shoulder with Charles the couple look natural and at ease with each other in the session in the Morning Room at Clarence House earlier this year. He has photographed the couple several times before.

Testino, 62, snapped Camilla is wearing a smart navy coat dress by one of her most trusted designers, Fiona Clare, with her favourite pearl choker and earrings.

Her trademark hair has been freshly coiffed in a slightly softer style than usual by her personal hairdresser, Hugh Green.

Charles, who will celebrate his 70th birthday next year, is meanwhile, in a British wool suit, light blue tie and pocket handkerchief.

Mr Testino said: ‘I’m honoured to document their royal highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on this very important date.

‘I first photographed the Duchess after her wedding to the Prince on a commission from British Vogue in 2006, and discovered a kind and beautiful person with a wonderful sense of humour.

“Doing this latest assignment to celebrate Her Royal Highness’s 70th birthday is a true honour.’

A spokesman for the couple said: ‘The Duchess was photographed with The Prince at home at Clarence House by world renowned photographer Mario Testino who has photographed them both several times before.

‘The image is one of several that was taken that day. Although these were not shot as official birthday portraits Their Royal Highnesses liked them very much and felt it would be nice to share one of them to mark the day.’

Camilla will be spending tomorrow privately with her family, including her two children, Tom and Laura, and her five grandchildren and her husband, the Prince of Wales.
