Several people have died and four have been injured in a pile-up involving two lorries and a minibus on the M1.
Thames Valley Police said that a number of people have been killed in the crash near Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes, but said it was “too early to confirm numbers”.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are being held at a Milton Keynes police station.
The minibus is believed to have travelled from near Nottingham in the same direction as the lorries before the smash which happened around 3.15am on Saturday.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the scene between junctions 14 and 15.
Chief Inspector Henry Parsons said: “We would ask all motorists to please avoid the area, use alternative routes and await further updates before attempting to travel on this route.
“We appreciate motorists’ patience while we deal with this serious incident.
Anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation should call the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101 quoting URN 214 of 26/8.
