An 18-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed by a gang of thugs armed with a handgun in a park in south London.

The man was approached by the group in Norbury Park and assaulted and knifed in an unprovoked attack, Scotland Yard said.

One of the suspects was believed to be armed with a handgun which he used to hit the victim.

Police and paramedics raced to the scene at about 4.45pm on June 22 after receiving reports of an injured man in nearby Courtland Avenue.

Police said the victim was rushed to hospital with stab wounds to his back, hand and arm and required surgery.

Detective Inspector David Willis, from Croydon CID, said: “This appears to have been a totally unprovoked attack. While attacks like this are thankfully rare, they are devastating to the victims and the consequences can be terrible.

“I would urge anyone who has any information to contact police; your call could prevent another attack or even save a life. We are determined to bring those responsible to justice and we asking the community to do all they can to assist us.”

A police spokesman added: “Three of the suspects are described as black, with two aged in their late teens.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
