Works by a Nanaimo-based artist are featured in an exhibition at a London gallery.
Jonathan Forrest’s Light and Matter will be at Michael Gibson Gallery until July 29.
The artist, whose abstract works have drawn acclaim, “pushes the boundaries of abstraction by using new tools and methods to create his luminous paintings,” the gallery stated in a news release.
Jennie Kraehling, the gallery’s associate director, said this is the Michael Gibson Gallery’s third exhibition with Forrest.
“The new paintings are incredibly luminous, almost jewel-like with a rich velvety texture,” the new release said.
“Forrest is steadfast and remains committed to pushing himself to explore hard-edged abstract painting in new and exciting ways. This body of work does not disappoint.”
Forrest divides his studio time between Vancouver Island and Saskatchewan. He studied at the University of Saskatchewan, earning a bachelor of fine art and a master’s degree.
His work has been shown in Western Canada in such museums as the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon, the Edmonton Art Gallery and the Dunlop Art Gallery in Regina.
His work hangs in public collections those galleries as well as the Canada Council Art Bank, the Moose Jaw Art Museum, the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina and at the University of Lethbridge and the University of Saskatchewan.
