A passenger train today partially derailed as it was leaving London’s Paddington station.

Rail operator GWR said the rear carriage of its 1157 to Penzance came part-way off the tracks while it was travelling at low-speed.

Customers were taken off the service and transferred to another train. No injuries were reported.

A GWR spokesman said: “Passengers have safely transferred to another train after the rear power car of the 1157 Paddington to Penzance became partially derailed as it was leaving Paddington Station today.

“The train was travelling at extremely low speed and no injuries were reported. Platforms one and two are currently out of use while Network Rail investigate the situation.”

A spokesman for Network Rail said re-railing engineers were on-site on Sunday evening working so the lines could be reopened as soon as possible.
