Police were pelted with bottles after hundreds of youths were turned away from a warehouse party in east London.

Footage shared on social media showed dozens of officers clashing with teenagers around Church Road in Leyton from 9pm on Wednesday.

At least one officer was injured in what neighbours described as near-riot scenes before the crowd dispersed shortly after midnight.

The party is believed to have taken place at the Gateway Business Centre after being organised on social media.

One resident said: “It was a teen party that was supposed to end at 9pm but got completely out of hand.

“The huge police presence was probably necessary as we’re next to marshland so they needed to disperse them towards areas where they wouldn’t lose them.”

Mark Rivas, who posted a video of the chaos on Twitter, said: “I was listening to music when I saw a whole crowd outside then I started filming.

“I could also see people jumping on cars and I heard dogs barking.”

Surrounding roads were closed and buses diverted as the Met’s helicopter flew overhead.

Zoe Middleton-Lyons wrote on Twitter: ”So I’m guessing all the police in #leyton are for the warehouse party I just watched on Snapchat being closed down?”

A Met spokesman said: “Police were called shortly before 9pm to reports of a large crowd causing a disturbance in the area of Church Road, Leyton.

“We understand that many of those in the crowd had been unable to gain access to a party.

“Officers sought to disperse the crowd, the majority of whom complied with police.

“However, at around 11pm a group became hostile, and missiles were thrown at police officers.

“Most of those present had dispersed by midnight.

“There have been no arrests. CCTV footage will be viewed to identify anyone who committed criminal acts.

“One police officer sustained a minor injury.”
