A train partially derailed after a tractor-trailer collided with it Monday morning near Mitchell.

Perth County OPP say an unloaded truck failed to stop prior to crossing railway tracks on Road 155 and a Goderich-Exeter Railway train heading west collided with it, derailing the front two locomotives. The train was hauling eight rail cars – five loaded with grain and three empty – at the time of the collision, which occurred around 8:50 a.m.

The truck driver was treated for minor injuries, police say. The train employees escaped unharmed.

The railway line and Road 155 between lines 32 and 34 will remain closed for a few days while the area is cleaned up and the tracks are repaired. Police are advising the public to avoid the area and obey all road closures.

The investigation is ongoing.
