Police are hunting a man after a teenage girl was grabbed and sexually assaulted as she walked along a street in south-west London.

The 15-year-old girl was followed and attacked by a man in Twickenham on Monday morning, police said.

He grabbed her from behind in Marble Hill Gardens and turned her around so she was facing him.

The suspect then sexually assaulted her and only stopped and ran off when he was disturbed by a passer-by.

Police said he had followed the victim from Chertsey Road by St Margaret’s roundabout along Winchester Road, Drummonds Place and past Beaconsfield Road.

Local borough police officers have stepped up patrols in the area following the attack, which happened at about 10.10am.

A Met Police spokesman said: “There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing.

“Officers are now appealing for any information that could lead them to the attacker, who is described as a white man, aged approximately 50 years old, around 5ft 10in tall, and of medium build. He was clean shaven with short grey hair; he was wearing a light brown jacket and dark brown trousers.”

Anyone with information is asked call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org. Alternatively, Tweet @MetCC.
