A restaurant has granted a dying woman’s last wish by shipping a milkshake across the US to her deathbed.

Emily Pomeranz, who has terminal pancreatic cancer, wanted a favourite mocha milkshake from her Ohio hometown diner but was in a hospice 370 miles away.

Her thoughtful friend, Sam Klein, got in touch with Tommy’s in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, to arrange the overnight shipping order.

Tommy Fello, the owner of the diner, put the milkshake on dry ice and shelled out £93 to post it to Washington DC, where Ms Pomeranz was spending her final moments.

The drink reached her bedside four days before she passed away last Friday.

Recalling what happened, friend Mr Klein said: “She said with a smile, ‘I wish I could have one more Tommy’s mocha milkshake.”

“A few days later I got a call from Tommy Fello, the owner of Tommy’s. ‘Yes. We will figure out a way to do this’, is what he said,” a Facebook post from Mr Klein read.

Facebook users were touched by Ms Pomeranz’s plight and praised the generosity of Mr Klein and the restaurant.

One user wrote: “My heart was touched by Tommy’s kindness and determination to help Emily enjoy one last great milkshake.”

Another said: “An inspiring story and a reminder of the value of the simple things in life and the beauty of friendship.”

Mr Klein said Ms Pomeranz, 50, was overjoyed to taste her favourite shake.

“I know Emily would love the fact that she’s making people feel good even though she’s not here with us anymore,” Mr Klein added.
